Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen is gearing up to portray her boldest avatar yet as transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant in the upcoming series 'Taali'. The series delves into the inspiring journey of Shreegauri Sawant's relentless pursuit to secure recognition for the third gender in India. With an impressive creative team behind the project, including Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar as creators, National award-winning director Ravi Jadhav at the helm, and Kshitij Patwardhan as the writer, 'Taali' promises to be a thought-provoking and empowering narrative.

In a recent interview with Midday, Sushmita Sen shared insights into the process of getting into the character. To accurately portray Shreegauri Sawant, she had to transform into two personas: a man named Ganesh and the transgender activist Gauri. Sushmita underwent a physical transformation for the male portions, binding her chest and using a crotch guard to achieve a more masculine appearance. She also had to put on weight to match the required masculine structure.

Moreover, Sushmita revealed the challenge of modulating her voice. To bring authenticity to the role, she dubbed the male portions separately, adjusting the bass in her voice to sound more masculine. Despite the strain on her throat during the process, she succeeded in achieving the desired effect.

One notable aspect of the series is the representation and inclusion of transgenders in the crew. Sushmita praised the creators and director for making a conscious effort to involve transgenders, making up more than 70 percent of the crew. On set, the guidance and insights from the transgender crew members were pivotal in accurately portraying their community's experiences and struggles.

The 'Taali' teaser, released last month on social media, offered a glimpse into the courageous quest of Shreegauri Sawant, highlighting the resilience and triumphs of the third gender.
